On March 21st, my middle child will be called to the Bima as bat mitzvah. I had to rent the venue for the whole day so i’m hosting a minimally talking, mostly dancing party from 5-7 with a salsa lesson starting at 4:30.
Because I have to have catering staff onsite anyway, drinks are free, water flowing, and non-alcoholic but celebratory drink will also slake your thirst.
Being a mother, whatever your gender, whether or not you gave birth, whether your Beloved is a baby, your nibling, or an irascible widow; your matriarchal labor requires skill, sacrifice, boredom, hours, and wear&tear on our body, so that the vulnerable people have protectors and that there is a comforting bosom for cuddles enough to go around.
Like Mon Mothma at ther daughter’s wedding, i want to be in my body and lose myself to the music to honor my maternal body’s movements.
i want to dance on the eve of my goblin child’s coming of age. I want to dance and get out of my head, surrounded by other women and friends.
I want you to come and have fun, even if we are not currently close. Women make circles at times of transition to gather shalom bayit onto the hearth of the mother, as well as showered over the fruit of our labor.
Will you join me at this bedtime-friendly rave?
C’mon. It’ll be fun.
Childcare can be arranged. Tell me other ways i can be inclusive. I see you, mamas. Let’s synch our rhythms before going back to our families.
Please provide enough contact info that you can be vetted by a mid-level social media detective and we can be semi-strangers but safe. I’ll send the ticket with venue info on a rolling basis.
